Want to make sure that you do not forget anything important on your next camping trip? This printable Camping Checklist will make packing for your next outdoor adventure easy.
The packing list is divided into five sections. Simply place a mark in the check box by each item as you pack it. This camping checklist for families and individuals works best when you are headed to a drive up or what’s known as “car camping” site. At these sites, you can pull up to or within easy walking distance of where you will make camp.
For back country camping, you will need to pare down your gear considerably to keep things compact and prevent weight overload.
Now, a little more detail on the 5 sections of the checklist for camping.
1. Sleeping Gear-Camping Checklist
Forget your tent, sleeping bag, cot, etc.. and you may experience some long, uncomfortable nights while camping. Make sure that you inspect your camping gear before you pack it. Ensure that zippers work, and tents and sleeping bags do not have holes in them. Make sure that all tent poles, rain flys, and tent footprints and stakes are accounted for when prepping for camping.
Also, if space allows, bring along a small rake and broom to prepare the area where you will be setting up your tent. Sticks, stones, and other natural debris is not only uncomfortable when your standing or laying on your tent floor, but can also poke holes in the tent.
A mat to set directly outside the tent entrance offers a great place to place shoes before entering the tent. And don’t forget to bring along tent lighting and for warmer months, a battery operated tent fan for comfort.
2. Camping Cooking Equipment
A little preparation goes a long way when it comes to easy camping food prep. Propane camp stoves offer the convenience of quick heating, efficient cooking, and easy maintenance. Also, these stoves are lightweight compared to some other options.
If the campsite you are going to allows you to build fires, do so within a fire ring whenever possible and never leave the fire unattended. A campfire grill, dutch oven, and roasting sticks will prove especially handy for open flame cooking.
Bringing along the right utensils, pots, pans, cups, and plates will make mealtime much for more enjoyable. Also, remembering the oft forgotten camp kitchen gear for clean up such as biodegradable soap, wash tubs, and trash bags will make after meal wipe up much easier.
3. Personal Items For Camping
Before packing your clothes, shoes, and outerwear for your camping trip, check the weather forecast. Temperatures and expected precipitation will make a big difference in what you should bring along. Even, when wet weather is not in the forecast throwing in ponchos is still a good idea. Also don’t forget water shoes for swimming, wading, and bathing.
Ever important, and frequently forgotten are sunscreen and bug spray. Also, a headlamp is mighty handy.
And the checklist will remind you to bring along some toilet paper and a well stocked first aid kit.
4. Other Camping Gear To Bring
Half the fun of a camping trip is leaving yourself time to relax. Bring along fold up camp chairs or stools, for taking a load off. Throw in some playing cards, small board games and/or books for added entertainment. Also, stick in safety items such as flashlights, glow sticks, batteries, duct tape, a multi-tool, and weather radio.
5. Finally, The Food And Drink
What would a great camp out be without some good eats and drinks? Keep it simple, do what ever prep you can at home before your trip, and ensure you keep your food stored at proper temperatures.
Bring along plenty of water or equipment for safely filtering water if needed. And don’t forget to store all food items in sealed containers away from your tent so as to avoid unwelcome visits by wildlife looking for munchies.
