Summer is a great time to keep a supply of boredom busting ideas on hand for the kids.
This Red, Clear, and Blue Liquid Layers activity is adapted from an experiment in the Everything Kids’ Science Experiments Book. This summer fun kids’ activity requires only simple ingredients, many of which you may already have in your pantry.

Supplies
1 cup of corn syrup
1 cup of vegetable oil
1/2 cup of water
Red and Blue food coloring drops
24 to 32 ounce glass or plastic bottle or other clear vessel.
Directions
Pour 1 cup of corn syrup into a measuring cup. Mix in red food coloring drops until desired color. Once mixed, pour into the glass or plastic container.
Pour one cup on vegetable oil on top of corn syrup in the container.
Mix 1/2 cup of water and blue food coloring together until desired color and pour on top of vegetable oil in container.
Let rest for a few minutes and see how everything settles out. The substances will end up once settled in the order of their densities.
