Ah, kids’ toys! Lots of fun for the little ones, but toy purchases can drain the wallet in a hurry. Here are 7 ways to save money on kids’ toy purchases.
- Keep your eyes peeled for end of season clearance sales. After Christmas, Easter, and the summer months, retail stores often put a variety of toys on sale. Stock up and put them away in a closet somewhere to pull out when you need them for a birthday or other event.
- Check toy manufacturer websites and their accompanying social media outlets such as Facebook for coupon offers. For example, Hasbro offers a rewards program through which you can sign up to receive printable coupons.
- Take a look at several sites that gather online coupon deals from across the Internet. Sites such as Coupon Cabin, DealCatcher, and RetailMeNot are good places to start.
- Make use of online price comparison tools to search for the lowest advertised prices. I often use Google Shopping and PriceGrabber.com.
- Give Ebay a shot.
- Periodically make a quick trip to discounters such as Big Lots and Tuesday Morning. The toy selection is ever changing and does include brand names.
- Make the rounds of some consignment shops. You never know what new or slightly used toy treasures that you might find there.

I love finding stuff for my kids at 2nd hand / thrift stores. My 2 tips:
Hit the “right” thrift shops… My sister lives in a BIG college town, lots of well to do academic types in the area, and the thrift shops have the most amazing, upscale name brand stuff.
Take the kids with you and let them pick something out! Sometimes something you’d have never thought of as being interesting to your kid will strike their fancy and become a best loved toy.
Great tips. Thanks so much for sharing.
I’ve had success finding toys at garage sales and trash picking. I love it when I can pay $5 for one of those big Tonka trucks!
Yes, nothing like a bargain on the metal trucks.
These are great tips! I second Barb’s suggestion of yard sales. I’ve gotten some great stuff! Along the same lines, if your local community has a Buy/Sell or Virtual Yard Sale page, you can find great stuff – sometimes new-in-package!
Found you at One Project at a time! 🙂
Thanks so much for adding more suggestions from your experience.
Great tips! We recently got a ton of stuff at our local consignment sale!!
We have a great consignment sale in area called Munchkin Market.
It is amazing how much nearly new stuff you can find.
I’ve found some great stuff at a semi-annual consignment sale. It’s huge with hundreds of consignors so you really get to pick the best stuff and the price you want to pay. Thanks for sharing via Family Fun Friday.
Always enjoy sharing at Family Fun Friday.
Hi Fuller ! Thank you for sharing these amazing pointer to save. Having three little boys, I used to visit our community garage sales and the boys would totally trip over the toys. Frankly, kids don’t really mind branded or non-branded toys ~ just so long as they get to play with them.. I have featured your post in my facebook page with your link.
