Preparation and knowledge can make the difference between a mediocre interview and a great one. The following simple steps will help you bring your A game to the job interview.
1.Come dressed to impress.
2.Leave your cell phone in the car.
3.Lead with a solid handshake and eye contact.
4.Be prepared to answer the most common questions.
- Tell me about yourself?
- Why do you want to work for this company?
- What are your strengths?
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
- Why should we choose you over the other candidates that we are interviewing?
- Do you have any questions for us? (Always have a few questions for the interviewer.)

5.Let the interviewer bring up salary, not you.
6.At the end of the interview, state again how much you appreciate the interviewer’s time, how much you would like to work for the company, and how much you look forward to hearing back.
7.Send a thank you note to all the individuals with whom you interviewed. Get their business cards while you are with them so that you have the proper titles and addresses for your thank you notes.

Always enjoy linking up the Sweet Wednesday Link Party. Thanks so much for hosting.
These are really helpful tips. Thanks for sharing on the weekend re-Treat link party.
I love the tips about leaving your cell phone in the cars and getting the business card so you have correct spelling/ address/etc! Happy SITS day:)
Yes, I have seen cell phones get too many people in trouble during interviews.
Great advice. If you don’t sell yourself, why would an employer want you? Good stuff.
Absolutely. Job candidates have to show employers why they are the right hires.
Great tips!!! Happy SITS DAY!
Great tips! I was just talking about this with a manager. She said she was listening to a radio show that wanted to put interviewing (and the questions asked) on it’s ear – so to speak. So she asked me …
What super power would you have if you had a choice?
I got so excited and said, I already have one. What’s that? I can tell fresh food from frozen at a restaurant.
What does it mean?
I am observant. I thought I could just tell when the wool was being pulled over my eyes!
Enjoy your SITS day!
Cristina
I love your answer about your superpower. That is a great skill.
Great tips Sarah! (My husband is on an interview right now so we’ve been going over the dos and don’ts of interviewing.) I’m new to SITS and just came across your blog today. I can’t wait to read all of your posts and tips on saving!
So appreciative of you stopping by.
Some really good practical tips here. Being in the HR field I especially feel the follow up t-you card really makes you stand out from the crowd as very few people do this any more. Visiting via SITS
I had a list similar to this one when I was going through interviews. It helped tremendously. I think I still have it somewhere…I haven’t gone on an interview in nine years and hope not to be in the near future.
PS: I am sending this to my cousins who just graduated.
That ahead of time prep sure does pay off doesn’t it.
